Recently the Argotti Botanic Gardens & Resource Centre (ABGRC) in Floriana, which forms part of the University of Malta, was featured in the TV programme Malta u Lil Hinn Minnha. The focus during this programme was the conservation of rare endemic plants.
Worldwide, various species are experiencing decline due to habitat loss, deforestation, and climate change. ABGRC works to conserve plant diversity and features a number of plants from different biomes, some of which need conservation action.
During the programme, Tony Meli, Curator Manager at the Argotti Botanic Gardens & Resource Centre, as well as Ethelbert Duca, from the Environment & Resources Authority (ERA), were interviewed. Both highlighted the fact that the botanical gardens serve as a research centre that hosts a diversity of plants, including threatened species.
