We are pleased to announce that Transport Malta and the University of Malta have launched the Maritime Seed Award 2023 (MarSA) in a bid to support researchers in taking their maritime-related ventures from concept to commercialisation!
The programme is run together with the support of the University’s Knowledge Transfer Office (KTO), TAKEOFF Business Incubator, and Centre for Entrepreneurship and Business Incubation (CEBI). Grants between €2,500 and €25,000 will be allocated through a competitive call open to researchers and entrepreneurs working in the Maritime field.
Researchers at the University of Malta will be eligible to apply for Proof of Concept funds which facilitates bringing their research closer to commercialisation. Seed Funding is available for entrepreneurs to move their venture closer to securing their first customer or investment.
The Rector said that the “Maritime Seed Award has a strong focus on championing innovation in the maritime sector by supporting cutting-edge ideas through resources' mobilisation derived by the partnership between Transport Malta and University of Malta. Its main purpose is to facilitate the achievement of sustainable and innovation goals that UM along with the Maltese Government strive to achieve. Therefore, the scheme is a great opportunity for young potential innovators and UM researchers to identify, get inspired by and develop new solutions to address common barriers to the uptake and development of technologies as well as to the ever-improving innovative services in the maritime industry."
Applicants are invited to attend the relevant mandatory online orientation session which will provide further information about MarSA and offer advice on how to prepare and complete the written applications. The Seed Fund Workshops will be held online on Monday 29 May at 14:00 while the Proof of Concept workshop will be held online on Monday 5 June at 11:30. Should applicants be unable to attend, alternative meetings must be held directly with the Knowledge Transfer Office for POC or TAKEOFF for SF.
The final application form will only be accepted if applicants or their representatives register and attend the respective MarSA workshop. You may register for the workshop online.
