Gilmour Camilleri, a Visiting Lecturer and PhD student at the University of Malta, participated in the 8th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting dedicated to Economic Sciences. The 2025 edition brought together around 20 Nobel Laureates to exchange ideas with the next generation of leading Young Economists from all over the world.
“This was an unparalleled academic experience and a unique opportunity to engage directly with Nobel Laureates and fellow researchers from across the world. “The discussions were both intellectually stimulating and inspiring, providing valuable insights into contemporary economic challenges and the evolving role of policy and research in addressing them,” Camilleri commented.
The Lindau Meetings offer participants a week-long programme of lectures, panel discussions, and small-group sessions designed to promote open scientific exchange. This year’s focus was on key global economic themes, including inequality, climate economics, financial stability, and the future of sustainable growth.
Participants had the rare opportunity to engage with leading minds in the field, including pioneers of modern economic thought. “I particularly appreciated the openness of the Laureates in discussing not only their groundbreaking work but also the practical and ethical dimensions of economic policymaking. The informal discussions between sessions created an exceptional atmosphere of collaboration and mutual learning.” Camilleri remarked.
Expressing his gratitude, Camilleri added, "The event offered me ample opportunity to discuss my own research with top-tier scholars and to build connections with peers from the world's leading institutions. I was proud to represent the University of Malta on this global stage. This experience underscores the incredible opportunities available to students who choose to pursue advanced studies through M.Sc. and PhD programmes."
The University of Malta, through its various faculties and departments, is committed to fostering high-level research and providing its academics with platforms for international engagement.
