Exploring Pathways: University of Malta Marks Its Presence at the Junior College Careers Expo

How does a career in medicine sound? What about sciences, economics, management, accounting, computing, technology, or social wellbeing? Perhaps you’re more into performing arts, languages, communications, humanities, catering, tourism, entrepreneurship, EU affairs, the police force, or transport.

From Monday 12 to Friday 16 January 2026, Junior College hosted its annual Careers Expo, a week dedicated to fresh opportunities, meaningful engagement with professionals, and sustained support for students as they considered their future academic and career pathways.

The Careers Expo provided students with a valuable platform to explore a broad spectrum of educational and professional options as they prepare for life beyond post-secondary education. Representatives from universities, faculties, institutes, as well as educational and commercial organisations, came together to offer first-hand information, practical guidance, and informed insight into the wide range of study and career possibilities available.

The presence of the University’s Faculties, Institutes and Schools throughout the Expo left a mark on this year’s edition, as students were encouraged to reflect on their interests, strengths, and aspirations, empowering them to make confident decisions.

On Monday 12 January, participation included the Department of Digital Arts, Student Advisory Services, the Department of Applied Biomedical Science, the School of Performing Arts, the Institute for European Studies, and the Department of Pharmacy.

On Tuesday 13 January, UM was represented by the Department of Translation, Terminology and Interpreting Studies, the Institute of Earth Systems, the Department of Radiography, the Department of German, the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology, the Department of Statistics & Operations Research, the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy, and the Department of Technology and Entrepreneurship Education.

On Wednesday 14 January, the Department of French, the Department of Conservation and Built Heritage, the Department of Media and Communications, the Department of Italian, the Faculty of Laws, the Department of Philosophy, the Department of Middle Eastern and Asian Languages and Cultures, and the Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics were present.

On Thursday 15 January, attendees included representatives from the Department of Youth, Community & Migration Studies, the Department of Physics, the Faculty of Education, the Department of Criminology, the Department of History, the Faculty of Medicine & Surgery, and the Department of Anthropological Sciences.

On Friday 16 January, talks were delivered by the Department of Occupational Therapy, the Department of Physiology and Biochemistry, and the Department of Maltese.

An extensive list of exhibitors were also present.

The solid academic foundation and skills that the G.F. Abela Junior College provides students with equips them with the confidence needed to progress to university. As a natural continuation of their studies, university education allows these students to deepen their knowledge, specialise in their chosen fields, and build upon the learning experiences acquired. This progression reflects a clear academic pathway that supports informed decision-making and successful transitions into higher education.
