Preparing for the Placement

Upon receiving the confirmation email about your placement, you should contact the host organisation to thank them for the opportunity. You and the host organisation will need to put certain documentation in place, depending on the type of placement being offered. Click here to find out what needs to be put in place for your placement. If you are required to sign an agreement with the company, ensure that a copy has been sent to the Placement Committee by handing it in at the DegreePlus office.

Before the placement you should also find out the following:

  • the start and end dates of your placement
  • the normal working hours of the host organisation and the hours that you will be expected to be there
  • the dress code and whether you need any special safety gear
  • the address of the company and how to get there
  • how long it will take you to get there, by car, using public transport
  • who your contact person or mentor is
  • whether there is a canteen or whether you need to take your own packed lunch
  • information about the host organisation, often this is available on their website

Download a copy of the Work Placement Recognition Form and look through it to ensure you are familiar with the format. You will need to complete this throughout the placement.

During the Placement

Be sure to be on time, fresh and presentable. They may well be your future employer, or someone you ask for a reference, so you should treat the entire placement like an interview. Remember, you only have one chance to make a first good impression.

Try to meet your mentor or manager as early as possible during the placement. It is important that you discuss what will happen throughout the placement and that you understand what the host organisation’s expectations are.

In case of any issues during the placement feel free to contact us.

After the Placement

The first thing that must happen upon completion of the placement is that you ensure that your contact at the host organisation had submitted a signed, scanned version of your Work Placement Recognition Form to the DegreePlus office. Failure to submit the Work Placement Recognition Form will mean that your placement will not be shown on your transcript.

In addition, you must pay a registration fee of EUR 5 and submit a copy of the receipt to the DegreePlus office, noting your identity card. You may pay for the registration fee at the Maltapost office on campus. Again, failure to submit the receipt will mean that your placement will not be shown on your transcript.

We would appreciate it if you could leave a testimonial of your experience of the placement. This will appear on our website and will help us improve the scheme, encouraging others to benefit from it.

You should also read through the FAQs and other useful information which has been provided. If there is something we missed out, or you need any further information, please contact us.
