Caravaggio Studies Platform

  1. A Caravaggio Studies Platform is being set up within the Faculty of Arts as an initiative of the Department of History of Art.

  2. The aims of the Platform are the following:
    (a) to undertake, promote, facilitate and coordinate research on the artist and artists influenced by him, and on the historical context of the period
    (b) to build an exhaustive database on works done by the artist and his followers and make it available for public capture
    (c) to maintain a specialised library on the artist and early seicento art in general
    (d) to enhance cooperation between international scholars and institutions and encourage an exchange of ideas
    (e) to disseminate scholarly information about the artist and his followers to as wide an audience as possible.

  3. The Platform shall have the following structure:
    (a) a Board consisting of the Coordinator, appointed by Senate on the recommendation of the Rector after consultation with the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and four other members, appointed by Senate on the recommendation of the Rector, after consultation with the Head of the Department of History of Art and the Dean of the Faculty of Arts
    (b)    the Chairman shall be appointed by Senate, on the recommendation of the Rector chosen from amongst the members of the Board
    (c) the appointment of the Coordinator and the members of the Board shall be for one year, which can be renewed.

  4. The Platform will operate as a cost centre, subject to the University’s financial regulations.
