Anna McElhatton lectures Microbiology, Food Safety and production within the Department of Food Sciences and Nutrition at the Faculty of Health Sciences. She graduated in 1988 (BPharm Hons) and 2015 (MA Bioethics) from the University of Malta. She obtained an MPhil and a PhD from the Queens University of Belfast in 1994 and 2002 respectively.
She was head of Department (previously Division coordinator) for almost eleven years until 2016, she is presently Deputy Chairperson of the Platform for Mediterranean Foodways. She has lectured various topics on various courses within the University, namely Microbiology, Food Safety, Food Science, Food Ethics and Food Policy.
She has been a member of several groups and committees including Pharmacy Council (Malta), Health Sciences Faculty Board, and University Research Ethics Board. Presently she is a member of the Faculty Research Ethics Board, Doctoral Committee, and the Mediterranean Foodways Board.
Her main research interests involve Food Microbiology, Safety and Fraud.
