Dr. Ann Laenen studied Arts and Theatre Science at KU Leuven and reached PhD level at the University of Leeds in 2007 on Audience Development: Why Opera Education? Five Cases of views in a European Context. In the mean time she gained experience as project coordinator and cultural manager at several (inter)national projects and organisations. 2008 she lead a research project for the Royal Academy of Antwerp on the conservation and restoration of works in paper. In 2009 she her academic career came at a turning point. She became the co-ordinator of the Communication Media Design â€“ programme at the Media & Design Academy in Genk. October 2010 she became the Head of Department at that institution and two years later she was appointed Dean of the Faculty of the Arts (LUCA School of Arts / KU Leuven). At present she lives in Malta. Currently she is teaching Active Design Processes at the Department of Digital Arts (University of Malta). She combines her academic work with project coordination, and consultancy at strategic as well as service design level within the arts, culture, creative industries and education.
