Dr Agius Muscat is a consultant public health physician with more than 30 years of experience in health informatics.

He read for his undergraduate degree in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Malta, qualifying in 1985. In 1989 he won a Foreign and Commonwealth Office scholarship to read for an M.Sc. degree in Health Information Science at Warwick University, UK, which he was awarded with Distinction. On his return to Malta he was appointed Head of the Health Information Systems Unit in the Ministry of Health and also started lecturing at the University of Malta.

In 1993, Dr Agius Muscat was appointed Consultant (Public Health Medicine) and also took up the newly-created position of Director (Health Information) for the Government of Malta. A year later, he was formally appointed as a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Malta.

For more than 30 years, Dr Agius Muscat has been at the forefront of developments in health informatics in the public health services. His hands-on experience and up-to-date knowledge in his specialty has always been passed on to the medical students and post-graduate students that he teaches.
