Mr Emanuel Balzan, a member of the SPEECHIE project research team, attended the first LUDI Training School (TD COST Action TD1309) held at Zuyd University of Applied Sciences in Heerlen, between the 18th and 21st of April 2017. The training combined theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of play and toys for children with disabilities. Lectures on various related aspects were held covering a range of topics such as the importance of play, play development, different low-tech and high-tech toys, design aspects of accessibility and usability and user experience. Furthermore, the trainees met six children with disabilities in order to improve their favourite toys by removing barriers and enabling play for the sake of play. The LUDI committee has delivered a very professional training, giving useful tools to consider play through a multidisciplinary holistic perspective of the child within his/her context/s.
