Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) is an approach that anticipates and assesses potential implications and societal expectations with regard to research and innovation, with the aim to foster the design of inclusive and sustainable research and innovation.
The European Commission has given great importance to RRI, including it together with its 5 thematic objectives (public engagement, open access, gender, ethics, science education) as the key action within the Science with and for Society objective
within its largest funding programme Horizon 2020.
UM has founded the Committee for Research Engagement (CRE)
in 2019 as part of the results of the NUCLEUS project
, in order to support its researchers in embedding RRI in their research and within the policies and processes of the UM. The Committee aims to go beyond the five thematic objectives of RRI, promoting a more organic and holistic approach that communicates the core principle of RRI based on social inclusion and democratisation of knowledge through participatory and collaborative processes that make the research accessible and inclusive.
