Dr Julian Evans graduated BSc(Hons) in biology and chemistry and MSc in marine biology from the University of Malta. He was subsequently awarded an EU scholarship to read for a PhD degree in marine ecology at the University of Plymouth, which he obtained in 2014. He is currently a visiting lecturer at the Department of Biology of the University of Malta, where he leads the coastal and marine biology field course, and lectures on ecological communities and on animal form and function, as well as supervising research projects. Dr Evans is also employed as a postdoctoral researcher on two EU funded projects.

His main research interests are marine biology and coastal ecology (including structural and functional ecology of benthic communities, and population biology of marine species), experimental design and quantitative analysis of biological data. Since 2009, he has actively published papers in international peer-reviewed scientific journals. Dr Evans also acts as a scientific consultant on environmental monitoring and assessment.
