Dr. Simeon Deguara

Dr. Deguara obtained his first degree in 1992 from the Department of Biology in Malta. Following his Master Degree, also carried out within the Department of Biology, and in which he specialised in the field of aquaculture fish nutrition,

Dr. Deguara read his PhD at the Institute of Aquaculture at the University of Stirling in Stirling Scotland, one of the few Institutes in the world offering specialised courses in Aquaculture.

Since the conclusion of his studies in 1998, Dr. Deguara has held various research positions in which he has carried out industry related and commercially sensitive research in the field of aquaculture fish nutrition. His main areas of interest are nutritional requirements, feed ingredients, antinutritional factors, feed supplements and feed formulations for aquaculture species but is also involved in research related to the biology and development of new species and commercial applications of interest to the aquaculture industry.

Since 2009, Dr. Deguara has been a Visiting Lecturer at the Department of Biology and has given lectures in the following subjects :

BIO0050 - Molecules and Life.

BIO0080 - Introductory Biochemistry.

BIO3080 - Agriculture, Fisheries and the Management of Biological Resources. 

BIO3300 - Biotechnology 2.
