Medichem Launches Award in Organic Chemistry

Roderick Abdilla Medichem Award for Organic Chemistry

The local API manufacturer Medichem was one of sponsors of this year's annual National Chemistry Symposium, organised by the Department of Chemistry at the University of Malta and S-Cubed, the Science Students' Society. During event Medichem launched the first edition of the Medichem Award in Organic Chemistry. This cash award has been set up to recognise outstanding achievements in organic chemistry by students in the BSc (Hons) programme.

The recipient of the first edition is Roderick Abdilla (right) who graduated BSc (Hons) Chemistry in 2015. Mr Abdilla's results in his organic chemistry subjects including organic spectroscopy. Mr Abdilla carried out a final year project in the area of green organic chemistry under the guidance of Prof Giovanna Bosica. Currently, Mr Abdilla is reading for a MSc in green organic chemistry under the guidance of the same supervisor. 

The Department of Chemistry would like to thank Medichem for their initiative and congratulate Mr Abdilla for the award and wish him every success for his MSc and career.
