Research activities of the Seismic Monitoring and Research Group (SMRG) :

  • monitoring, mapping and analysis of seismic activity in the central Mediterranean in particular around the Maltese islands, and identify active faults in the sea bed of the Sicily Channel
  • crustal structure and attenuation properties
  • enhancing the epicentral location capability in the Central Mediterranean 
  • focal mechanisms of small earthquakes
  • single-station epicentre location
  • seismic site response studies
  • ground motion prediction
  • seismic hazard and seismic risk for the Maltese islands. 
  • tectonics and geodynamics of the Central Mediterranean
Outstanding Academic Title
The book "Earthquakes and their Impact on Society" has been selected by Choice magazine as"Outstanding Academic title" for 2016 
Participation at AGU
Dr Sebastiano D’Amico and Ms Daniela Farrugia (Department of Geosciences) have participated in the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting held in San Francisco (USA) from 10th to 15th December 2016.
