| DESCRIPTION | Qualified youth workers are expected to be competent project managers. This study-unit seeks to critically introduce a range of relevant theories of project management appropriate to youth and community work practices and organisations, including specifically issues of EU project managing. It also attempts to help students critically explore project management practice in youth and community work and within the youth service. Study-unit Aims: This Study-unit is aimed at: - Enabling students to review various theoretical approaches to project management and change - Fostering the necessary skills to engage in youth projects effectively. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: • Review critically various theoretical approaches to the management of projects and to evaluate their usefulness in community and youth work settings; • Learn how to tap the sources of funding available for community and youth work projects and the relationship funding at European and local levels. 2. Skills (including transferable [generic] skills): By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: • Analyse own contribution to the management and development process of youth projects; • Identify issues relating to uncertainty and change and design associated project development plans in response to these issues; • Manage projects appropriately to their role and responsibility.
