These Degreeplus courses are being offered to the UM Staff/Students and General Public.

Din it-taqsima hija mmirata għal studenti li qed jistudjaw f’oqsma akkademiċi differenti u li diġà huma midħla tal-ilsien Malti iżda jixtiequ jiksbu ħila ikbar fl-użu tal-ilsien Malti biex iħejju ruħhom aħjar għall-ħajja professjonali tagħhom.

Il-kors joffri taħriġ ortografiku li bih l-istudenti jkunu jistgħu jsaffu l-kitba tagħhom mill-iżbalji u jaġġornaw ruħhom mal-aħħar żviluppi fil-kitba tal-Malti.

Is-sessjonijiet se jsiru nhar ta' Erbgħa mill-4:30pm sas-6:30pm mis-7 ta' Lulju sal-25 ta' Awwissu 2021.

NAGĦMLU STORJA TINKITEB għal darba oħra ... fis-sajf!

Dan il-kors prattiku u intensiv jiffoka fuq in-novella u forom oħra ta’ proża bil-Malti. Matulu nistħarrġu aspetti fundamentali tal-kitba ta' storja u l-preżentazzjoni tal-istess storja quddiem udjenza. Il-kors iħares lejn dak li nkiteb diġà u lejn dak li qed jinkiteb. lokalment u internazzjonalment, bħala punt tat-tluq.

Il-sessjonijiet jiffukaw fuq il-karatteristiċi speċifiċi tan-novella, l-istrateġiji narrattivi, l-iżvilupp tal-karattri, ir-ritmu tal-proża, il-vuċi u t-ton, u s-sehem tal-metafora u l-lingwaġġ figurattiv. Kull sessjoni ttul sagħtejn u tagħti lok għal diskussjoni, kitba u qsim ta' ideat. Fuq kollox, il-kors iħeġġeġ lill-parteċipanti jesperimentaw u ma jibżgħux jiktbu l-ewwel sentenzi tagħhom.

Is-sessjonijiet jsiru nhar nhar ta' Tlieta mil-4pm sas-6pm ta' mis-6 ta' Lulju sal-24 ta' Awissu.

Summer Period

A Latin course for complete beginners.

This course is ideal for students who desire an introduction to the Latin Language. By the end of the course students shall be able to form and translate simple Latin sentences.

Sessions to be held on Wednesdays on 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, July, 4th, 11th, 25th August, 1st September 2021 from 4pm till 6pm.

Study unit description

 Summer Period

This course is to familiarize oneself with the Greek alphabet, phonetics and accentuation system and developing one's reading skills through simple phrases, be knowledgeable of basic grammatical rules applied to Modern Greek. 

Acquire confidence and articulate simple phrases of vital importance used in everyday language and gain knowledge through the use of appropriate sources of Greek from a cultural point of view.

Sessions to be held on Wednesdays on 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, July, 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th August 2021 from 2pm till 4pm.

Study unit description 

 Summer Period

This is an opportunity to learn the basis of Classic Greek starting from the alphabet. By the end of the course, you will have learnt basic vocabulary, grammar, and reading simple texts of this language that has contributed so much culture and science. No prior knowledge of the language is required.

Optional homework and in-class tests may be set by the lecturer but performance in either of this will have no bearing on certification. This study-unit is for students with no prior knowledge of Classical Greek.

Sessions to be held on Wednesdays on 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, July, 4th, 11th, 25th August, 1st September 2021 from 4pm till 6pm.

Study unit description

Summer Period

This eight-week course will introduce students to the realm of Ancient Greek Mythology.

Throughout the study-unit we shall discuss the impact that these myths had on Ancient Greek civilisation and how these myths affected the culture and society of the people that believed in them.

Students will be also introduced to mythology through ancient literary sources such as Homer and Hesiod, as well as through ancient drama such as the tragedies of Euripides.

Sessions to be held on Wednesdays on 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, July, 4th, 11th, 25th August, 1st September 2021 from 6pm till 8pm.

Summer Period

A mixed-focus Thematic Approach which seeks to explore elements of Greek and Roman history through a thematic rather than chronological approach that puts the emphasis on these themes rather than on the narrative.

Sessions to be held on Wednesdays on 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, July, 4th, 11th, 25th August, 1st September 2021 from 4pm till 6pm.

Study-unit description

Summer Period - New Unit

This course is spread over 8 weeks, exploring the foundations of the Western canon, noting how these works of literature were influenced by other cultures and their impact on subsequent literature.

If you ever spent sleepless nights pondering the Homeric Question or you wondered how goats and tragedies are connected, this course is for you.

During the course, we shall be paying close attention to Epic, Drama and Lyric Poetry. This course is particularly suited to students who have already followed one of the Language, History or Mythology courses.

Sessions to be held on Wednesdays on 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, July, 4th, 11th, 25th August, 1st September 2021 from 5pm till 7pm.

The Voluntary Work stream will give you the opportunity to help others through your involvement in approved voluntary work projects. This will help you sustain the ‘voluntary’ spirit and get exposure to certain social realities in Malta. You will also get the opportunity to work in teams and to learn and develop the necessary support skills thereby enhancing your social skills and learn how to implement effective planning.
