The placement

Preparing for the placement

Upon receiving the confirmation email about your placement, you should contact the host organisation to thank them for the opportunity. You and the host organisation will need to put certain documentation in place, depending on the type of placement being offered. Find out what needs to be put in place for your placement by visiting the Types of Placements webpage.

Before the placement you should also find out the following:

  • the start and end dates of your placement
  • the normal working hours of the host organisation and the hours that you will be expected to be there
  • the dress code and whether you need any special safety gear
  • the address of the company and how to get there
  • how long it will take you to get there, by car, using public transport
  • who your contact person or mentor is
  • whether there is a canteen or whether you need to take your own packed lunch
  • information about the host organisation, often this is available on their website.

During the placement

Be sure to be on time, fresh and presentable. They may well be your future employer, or someone you ask for a reference, so you should treat the entire placement like an interview. Remember, you only have one chance to make a first good impression.

Try to meet your mentor or manager as early as possible during the placement. It is important that you discuss what will happen throughout the placement and that you understand what the host organisation’s expectations are.

In case of any issues during the placement feel free to contact us.

DegreePlus recognition

The process to obtain recognition for your DegreePlus placement is quite straight forward.

After your placement is concluded:

  • Fill in the Work Placement Recognition Form   and hand in the signed original to the DegreePlus Office personnel (the document must be signed by both parties), or
  • Present a reference letter from the host company/organisation
  • Once the required document is handed in and the placement will be registered in SIMS by the DegreePlus Office, you will receive an email notification to pay an online administration fee of Eur 5.
  • Proceed to pay the administrative fee of Eur 5 online to secure the DegreePlus Unit registration.

Placements through the DegreePlus Programme are not ECTS based, and once your request is officially approved, your work placement will be recorded on your academic transcript.

You should also read through the FAQs and other useful information which has been provided. If there is something we missed out, or if you need further information contact us.

A testimonial of the experience

We will be delighted to include a testimonial of your placement experience on our website. This will help us improve the scheme and encourage others to benefit from it.
