| DESCRIPTION | This study-unit discusses selected themes in Christian belief and practice within the context of Christian-Muslim dialogue. These include: The Trinity and Monotheism;Jesus Christ and his mission in the New Testament and in the Qur'an; the event of Cross; the role of Mary in the New Testament and in the Qur'an; the Word of God and the status the Scriptures; the Eucharist; Prayer in the Christian and in the Muslim tradition; the issue of Celibacy and Consecrated Life; Biblical Prophecy and the Prophethood of Muhammad; Freedom of Religion and Freedom of Worship. These topics are examined in the light of what is stated concerning them in the Bible and in the Qur'an as well as the way they are interpreted in the teachings of the Church and in the Muslim Tradition. Study-unit Aims: Enhancing a sincere and dynamic process of dialogue between Christians and Muslims by addressing questions frequently posed by Muslims regarding Christian faith and practice. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will: a) Become acquainted with different the various aspects of interreligious dialogue and especially Muslim-Christian dialogue; b) Acquire a better understanding of the fundamental theological divergences between Christianity and Islam; c) Acquire a better appreciation of Islam and the way it is lived out by Muslims even as one gains a deeper understanding of the Christian faith. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: a) Enter into a constructive discussion within the context of interreligious dialogue; b) Give a clear presentation of Christian doctrinal and moral teaching in terms that intelligible to a non-Christian audience.
