TITLE Rights in the Church

LEVEL 04 - Years 4, 5 in Modular UG or PG Cert Course

DEPARTMENT Pastoral Theology, Liturgy and Canon Law

DESCRIPTION This study-unit aims to introduce the students to one of the most fundamental themes in the life of the Church: the self-understanding of the Church as the People of God. Though necessarily limited, the study-unit aims to present the basic notions and relative norms of each of the three conditions of life within the Church, namely clerics, religious and laity, together with the relative legislation that regulates the fundamental rights and duties of these states of life. The study-unit will as such briefly cover the contents of Book II of the Code of Canon Law, dealing more specifically with the fundamental concept of communion in the Church, the rights and obligations common to all of Christ's faithful. Lectures will also deal with the rights and duties relative to the three conditions of life within the Church, namely clerics, religious and laity.
