DESCRIPTION The study-unit is divided into two parts. In the first part, the focus will be on the Catholic vision of the human being in the context of contemporary society. It will specifically study the uniqueness of the human being; the autonomy of the human being and the human being as a person in relation with others. The study-unit will also devle into issues concerning the human being in the world, including the reality of sin, economy, politics, the world of work and the family.

The second part of the study-unit will focus exclusively on how aspects of human dignity elaborated during the first part of the study unit can be presented through Religious Education as a subject in Maltese Secondary Schools.

Study-unit Aims:

The study-unit aims at giving students the necessary background required to teach and discuss certain topics and issues in the classroom.

This background consists of two particular aspects:
1. theoretical knowledge which is relevant to the teacher in order teach certain aspects through Religious Education;
2. the tools required to present these topics in class in an interesting and attractive way, even through the use of multi-media.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

a. define the vision of the human being as this is found in Christian Anthropology;
b. understand the contemporary cultural context in the light of the Catholic Faith;
c. interpret the signs of the times from the Catholic point of view.

2. Skills:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

a. develop lesson plans in an adequate way with attractive resources to teach topics related to human dignity;
b. teach topics related to human dignity in the Maltese Secondary School environment;
c. evaluate the teaching process and make amendments or improvements accordingly.
