DESCRIPTION In this study-unit students will be invited to reflect on the implications of the new approaches to holistic development and to the emerging literature on this area. Furthermore students will be invited to experience different methods that may nurture personal spirituality. The study-unit will enable future Religious Education teachers to empower their students through holistic education.

Study-unit Aims:

The study-unit aims at introducing students to the recent theories in the field of children and youth spirituality.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

(a) define religion and spirituality and their role in the formation of identity;
(b) identify the main existential needs questions of adolescents;
(c) read and interpret different symbol systems;
(d) understand the different theories and models of spiritual development and nurture.

2. Skills:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

(a) plan and develop suitable interventions to enhance students' relational skills, awareness capability, and ability to formulate and research fundamental questions;
(b) support students' spiritual development through curricular and extra curricular activities.
