Joseph Borg read for his Bachelorship and then Masters in Theology at the University of Malta; for a post-graduate diploma in Communication Studies at Concordia University, Montreal. Canada and for a PhD with the University of Bolton, U.K.
Borg was the Archbishop's Delegate for Social Communication, Head of the Press Office of the Archdiocese, founder of RTK radio, the Media Centre and the newspaper IL-GENS. He is the drafter of the media policy of the Archdiocese of Malta title: The Digital Face of the Lord.
Borg was the first chair of the Editorial Board of Public Broadcasting Services Ltd. and between 2000 and 2013 was the Government's consultant for Audio Visual policies. Borg represented Malta in a number of conferences and in the working group on the Audio-visual Media Services Directive.
He presented and produced several TV and radio programmes some of which are award winners. He was the main drafter of the National Broadcasting Policy. Borg is also the editor of Campus FM and the Chairman of the Editorial Board of Beacon Media Group.
His contribution to Malta's media landscape was recognized by The Press Club (Malta) which presented his with the first Gold Award for journalism. The Maltese state conferred on his the Membership of the Order of Merit.
He is one of the promoters of the study of media education in Church schools. Together with Dr Lauri he is the co-author of the media educations books used in secondary schools. He authored many papers in different academic peer-reviewed publications and edited a number of books.
He is currently Visiting Senior Lecturer at the Department of Media and Communication at the Faculty of Media and Knowledge Sciences.
His main research interests are: media ethics; media and society; media and religion; and media education.
