DESCRIPTION This unit is designed for students who have completed the Dutch for Beginners course in semester 1. It consists of more advanced speaking, listening, writing and reading exercises, as well as grammar, syntax and spelling exercises. The students will also discover interesting facts about the history of the Dutch language and its development. In addition, elements of Belgian and Dutch culture and geography have been incorporated into the course. The lectures are interactive and students are encouraged to actively participate.
In line with the course in semester 1, this unit is subdivided into thematic chapters (e.g., family trees, going to a restaurant, travelling, going to the doctor etc.).

Learning Objectives: To practice the speaking, listening, writing and reading skills acquired in semester 1 - To interact using more advanced vocabulary - To correctly apply grammar, syntax and spelling rules- To gain a better insight into the language, culture and geography of Belgium and The Netherlands

Learning Outcomes: By the end of the unit the students will: - Be able to communicate efficiently and confidently using more advanced vocabulary - Have the skills to read and write more advanced texts in Dutch - Have a better understanding of the Belgian and Dutch language, culture and geography

Unit Material: Handouts will be provided during the sessions. Students who are interested in further reading or additional exercises may ask the tutor for extra material.

Assessment: In keeping with the spirit of Degree Plus, there is no formal assessment associated with this unit. However, attendance and active participation in the sessions are compulsory.

Note: Degree plus units are not designed to be incrementally burdensome in terms of the many academic demands placed on students during their undergraduate years.
