The Department of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering (DMME) has 4 Ph.D. and 2 M.Sc. research students. Two of these students are funded by the STEPS scholarship.

Metallurgy and Materials Engineering at the University of Malta is offering students opportunities to conduct research projects at both Ph.D. and M.Sc. levels.

As a Department we provide a dynamic environment combining traditional academic excellence with an innovative attitude, and we are organised to respond to new themes and initiate multidisciplinary research.

Since the DMME has partnerships with leading international universities, Ph.D. and M.Sc. researchers cooperate with researchers from all over the world.

The departments' main research areas are the following:

  • Tribology

  • Laser Materials Processing

  • Corrosion

  • Biomaterials

  • Surface Engineering

  • Composite Materials

  • Materials for Heritage Conservation

  • Materials Selection
