The translation profession has always lacked prominence. In Malta, the profession remains even more unexplored and lacks the overall deserved visibility. In view of this, the present study aims to contribute towards Translation Studies by attempting to explore the status of the local translation profession. The study was carried out by conducting a mainly quantitative study among translation professionals working in Malta, to better understand the local translation industry and more importantly, its constituents. A questionnaire, consisting of twenty-four questions was designed and disseminated as widely as possible amongst locally based translators. The dissertation concludes by underlining the main findings of the study, in the hope of aiding translation professionals acquire better working conditions. Amongst other findings, the research shows that the local translation industry is female dominated and the majority of translators working in Malta are fulltime freelancers.en_GB
