The Department of Pharmacy was a pioneer in the development and implementation of a university-based laboratory quality system with the aim to instil the concept of quality awareness, accountability and verification among students.
The Quality System is continually updated and consists of general standard operating procedures for Health and Safety, Good Laboratory Practice and Training, standard operating procedures for the appropriate use of point-of-care medical devices, analytical and pharmaceutics equipment, as well as Material Safety Datasheets for chemicals available in the laboratories.
The Quality System is an integral part of the running of the laboratories and is implemented in practical teaching sessions and in laboratory fieldwork as part of research projects.
