Title: The famous unique Malta QV yellow 1860 entire, the elusive Don Giuseppe Said and the house he lived in
Abstract: This tiny entire, measuring only nine by six centimetres, addressed to Don
Giuseppe Said of Mosta and franked with an example of the first Malta stamp ever
issued, the Malta Half Penny Yellow, was sold for the second time by Spink Auction
House of London, as lot 65, on the 2nd November 2022. It is the earliest recorded
use of the stamp in existence, just thirteen days after the stamp was issued and the
only Half Penny Yellow known cancelled with the "M" handstamp to be directly
associated with a date of use. The winning bid was of £15000 sterling, which,
with additional auction fees etc. could easily have reached a final price nearer the
£20000 mark! Eventually, it emerged that the winning bid had been successfully
placed by MaltaPost. [excerpt]

A philatelic investigation of the history of microscopic research on butterflies and moths

Title: A philatelic investigation of the history of microscopic research on butterflies and moths
Abstract: The fascination with the natural world and the creatures that share our planet is
ancient and enduring. Butterflies and moths are amazing and mysterious creatures
that excite the minds of humanity for many centuries. The gracefulness and color
of butterflies and moths reflect a small part of the fairy-tale world of nature's most
beautiful creatures. Some patterns drawn by nature have an almost magical appeal,
such as the delightful patterns on the wings of butterflies. The spray of colors on
a butterfly's wing, a vivid pattern painted with the iridescent dust of thousands of
tiny scales, ranks among nature's more entrancing mysteries. [excerpt]
