| Abstract: | There lived in Chamounix, a small village in Savoy, a poor but honest family of tenant farmers, composed of two rather elderly spouses and an only daughter. The parents had devoted all their care to her, and if the noble nature of the girl was a sweet comfort to them, the uncommon beauty of Linda, for that was her name, did not leave them without thought.
