| Abstract: | Greek mythology acts as a trigger of creative expression and as a key source of inspiration in many forms of art including fashion. Moreover, Greek mythology is an essential, conceptual tool in exploring the course of construction of these artifacts. Types of clothes and dressing narrate stories in their own way. Combining the examination of the dressing properties, behaviour and practises of Greco-Roman divinities we acquire a large amount of information on the above items as well as the expression of our identity and interpretation of fashion trends. Myths which are associated with clothes carry the social and cultural structure of societies which molded them as indicated in the example of the myth with the weaving contest between Athena and Arachne. Because the forms of Greek myths are well known and easily identifiable, they were used to provide names or logos for apparel companies with a typical example being the sportswear firm Nike, by the name of the goddess Niki and the logo of the Versace Fashion House, which is the head of the Medusa. Every creator - haute couture designer has his/her modern muse, from whom he/she is inspired and has in mind when they capture the design of clothes, such as mythical muses inspired ancient artists. |
