Abstract: Heritage interpretation is essential to cultural heritage sites in order to deliver a universal message to the visitors. Nowadays, digital interpretation is utilised on sites around the globe. The aim of this long essay is to determine the state of heritage interpretation in the Maltese islands through the interpretation techniques utilised at different cultural sites. The results obtained in this research indicate that Malta is heading towards digital interpretation due to the visitors’ requirements. However, it is highlighted that both approaches –the traditional and the digital - are essential to reach a broad audience. Thus, this research aimed to demonstrate the actual interpretation methods used in Malta vis-a-vis the current state of play in heritage interpretation year, therefore this research suggests that further importance should be given to Heritage Interpretation as a field of study.
