Integrating energy into UM’s agenda for Malta’s maritime future: Prof. Robert N. Farrugia

Prof. Inġ. Robert N. Farrugia, Vice-Chair of the University Maritime Platform, hails from the Institute for Sustainable Energy in Marsaxlokk and his background is in engineering; particularly in sustainable energy options.

The strong links between sea and land have shaped the Maltese archipelago’s socioeconomic activities. Whether it is for the importation of fuels for transportation and electrical energy generation, or for electricity transmission by means of submarine cables, the marine space around us plays an important role in meeting our nation's day-to-day energy requirements.

The potential for harvesting renewable energy at sea may also offer significant opportunities. Technological innovation and the seamless integration of energy infrastructure into our marine space are important for sustainability in a maritime nation context.
