| DESCRIPTION | Objective The purpose of the study-unit is to help students assess current debates and issues in the area of literary criticism. Description The study-unit will either (i) select for close reading and seminar discussion one or two leading monographs of literary theory published in the preceding year that can be shown to be representative of current agendas in the field; it will relate the works to prior critical debate and analyse the nature of their current and probable impact, and help the students to engage in a structured critique of their content; or (ii) students may be asked to each select a recent journal article and deliver a presentation on the article, with the group participating in a discussion over a Virtual Learning Environment of the salient points in each article. Reading List The set texts will change from year to year, in keeping with the nature of the course. The texts chosen for seminar discussion will be announced to students ahead of the study-unit. |
