The Communications Office was established in August 1991 to enhance communications both within as well as outside of the University of Malta. Since February 2007, it has taken on the task of developing an Alumni Association and is now known as the Communications & Alumni Relations Office.
The Communications & Alumni Relations Office works to enhance and protect the corporate image of the University and is the University’s official channel of communication with the media. Its brief also includes the development of good communications with institutions outside the University, the general public, its staff and students. It does this principally through the issuing of media releases and the production of a weekly electronic newsletter. News on Campus, the weekly electronic newsletter, helps keep staff and students up to date with campus news and events.
The Communications Team aims to establish and strengthen links with graduates and friends of the University. The Alumni Relations arm of the Office is responsible for building and maintaining mutually beneficial contact between the University and its former students by involving them in the University’s life and development.
The Office is responsible for the preparation of all major University publications such as the Annual Report, the University Calendar, the Presentation Booklet and other information material.
The Office is actively involved in the Website Redevelopment Project with the aim of giving a 'fresh look' to the University website along with improved organisation of online information. The team also sees to the regular updating of the University website in collaboration with the IT Services of the University and is a member of the Web Editorial Board of the University.
The Communications & Alumni Relations Office assists the public with general enquiries about the University. Visitors are welcome to campus tours organised by the team.
The Office is actively involved in all major University events and initiatives organised by the University. Whether a seminar, public lecture, book launch, presentation, concert or major international conference it advises on marketing and publicity strategies as appropriate to the occasion. This could necessitate advertisements, press releases, the production of booklets, posters and flyers, the creation of a website. The Office also assists in the organisation and execution of the event itself.
