DESCRIPTION | This study-unit will examine how selected activities may have an impact on the urban and natural environment and how these are addressed by different legal instruments. It focuses on specific areas of environmental law namely those relating to waste management, construction activities, pollution, water quality, noise and environmental sustainability. It will also identify and look into the remedies available to address disputes. Study-unit Aims: This study-unit is designed to train students in selected topics of environmental law. It focusses on certain specialised branches of environmental law relating to waste management, construction activities, pollution, water quality, noise and environmental sustainability. It will also look into the remedies available to resolve disputes resulting from activities carried out in these areas. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: 1. Evaluate environmental issues, assess the pertinent law regulating the matter and provide a legal assessment on addressing the problem in hand; 2. Describe the importance of properly identify the suitable law to address specific issues. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: 1. Connect the relevant national legislation with the various environmental issues arising from specific activities looked into this study unit; 2. Provide legal advice in the examined areas.
