| DESCRIPTION | This study-unit will introduce the student to various complimentary services that co-exist with the national health services. These complimentary services support the process of rehabilitation and recovery, or compliment the care given within the mental health services. These include sexual health, maternal mental health, homelessness, abuse, employment and finicial issues such as usury. Secondly, it will promote practice development through evidence-based and critical reflection. It is designed to cover the key issues, directions, interventions and evidence-based practice related to a holistic psychiatric rehabilitation and recovery approach. The importance of this study-unit is that without adeqaute knowledge of the services available, rehabilitation and recovery would not be as effective. Study-Unit Aims: To provide the student the knowledge and understanding of the various services that compliment mental health care. This study unit will highlight the need and importance of the various services such as sexual health, maternal mental health, abuse, provision of shelter, support with abuse and financial issues, as well as discuss and describe the entities who provide such valuable services. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Discuss about various services available that compliment mental health care; - Identify rehabilitation strategies in the provision of complimentary services; - Communicate and collaborate with other health care professionals and services; - Demonstrate how complimentary mental health services manifest themselves in practice; - Demonstrate the main constituents of the Recovery Model and the application of a Client Centred Care approach. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Use published research to influence care options for patients receiving mental heath care from a psychiatric nurse; - Apply theories of recovery and rehabilitation to the role of a psychiatric nurse.
