DESCRIPTION The study-unit will introduce students to the basic principles of environmental health with special reference to the impact of environmental elements on on health of humans.

Topics that will be discussed include:

- Effects of chemical, biological and physical agents on population health;
- Introduction to international programs, such as the International Program for Chemical Safety (IPCS) of WHO, E.U. MECPOL program, and OECD;
- Food Management;
- Water quality issues;
- Housing and Transport, air pollution, and solid waste management;
- Climate change and its impacts on the immediate environment;
- One Health; and
- Zoonoses.

Study-unit Aims:

Students will be introduced to the basic principles of environmental health, and the impact on human health.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Identify the different environmental factros which influence human population health; and
- Describe the relationship and impact of environmental factors on human populations; and
- Understand the concept on One Health and Zoonoses.

2. Skills
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Explain the importance of the environment in maintaining and restoring health; and
- Participate in plans set out to investigate harmful environmental factors.
