DESCRIPTION | Contact: voluntary.degreeplus@um.edu.mt Tel No: 2340 2341 Target students: Open to all students Learning outcomes: By participating in this programme you will: 1. improve your people, team work and social skills 2. plan and manage small scale projects 3. become more aware of social realities in Malta 4. gain experience which makes you more employable in the future Training Session/s: Students are required to be present at a briefing session at the start of the voluntary work project. If additional training is necessary, due to the specific requirements of the organization, then the participant would be expected to attend. Log Book: Participants will be required to submit a log book of their attendance at the placement to obtain recognition under the degree plus programme. Content: Every student is required to undertake 20 hours of participation during each semester/summer programme in a project in one of the following areas at least 10 of which must be direct contact hours with either people or the environment. Categories: The following categories will be offered: Working with children Working with young people Working with the elderly Working with refugees Working with persons experiencing illness or special needs Pro-environmental initiatives All fees (e.g. transport fees, etc.) are to be borne by the student. Furthermore, when registering for this unit, participants are declaring that they are participating in these activities at their own risk, and assume full responsibility for their own judgments, behaviour and actions. Participants are aware that they shall hold the University of Malta, its employees, DegreePlus and the University Chaplaincy, harmless from any liability ensuing as a result of damages caused. In particular, the University of Malta, its employees, DegreePlus and the University Chaplaincy, shall not be held responsible for any injuries that may result during or after the activities related to this unit. Participants shall not consider any of the information presented here to be a recommendation, instruction, guidance, advice or endorsement. Before engaging in work in some particular categories, participants are requested to consult with a physician. In particular, students choosing to work with refugees are advised to get the TB and Hep B immunisation unless they have already been vaccinated. |
