DESCRIPTION | This unit is for students who wish to start learning the Bulgarian Language. The unit includes the following components: - a short grammar introduction with explicit explanations; - simple vocabulary; - a phrase set; exercises to develop language usage competence; - and a short socio-cultural introduction to the country that is thematically related to the lesson. Study-Unit Aims: - To provide an introduction to the Bulgarian Language; - To introduce students to the Bulgarian alphabet; - To enhance students’ sensitivity to listen, read and understand basic Bulgarian words and phrases; - To provide opportunities to make use of frequently used expressions and basic phrases in Bulgarian; - To enable simple introductory conversation in Bulgarian. Unit Material: Appropriate unit material will be provided by the tutor during the sessions. There are no set texts for the unit, though tutors may recommend appropriate manuals to students who would like to take their work in this area further. Assessment: In keeping with the spirit of Degree Plus, there is no formal assessment associated with the unit. A certificate of attendance and of satisfactory completion of the unit will be provided at the end of the semester. Note: Degree plus units are not designed to be incrementally burdensome in terms of the many academic demands placed on students during their undergraduate years. |
