DESCRIPTION This study-unit is open to all students playing a Wind, Brass, Vocals, Drums, Bass, Piano & Guitar. The benefits of playing in an ensemble are both musical and social. To start with the latter, through ensemble playing students will learn how to work as a team to produce wonderful music. This will be backed up by the right approach to rehearsing and performing so that students will develop a positive group identity, a bonding with peers, and a strong sense of community. Rehearsing will eventually become for them the ideal time to take risks, make friends and feel a sense of belonging. Apart from that, playing in an ensemble will give students the chance to unwind from their academic commitments. From the musical point of view, students will learn how to improve instrumental technique through the assistance of a supporting group of professional instructors on their respective instruments. Through such coaching students will acquire the right attitude to playing in an ensemble with emphasis, amongst others, on a more sensible group playing and intonation, balancing, group coordination and proficient performing practice. The Ensemble is very active in the musical life of the University and is occasionally invited to perform abroad.

Learning Objectives:
