DESCRIPTION | This unit is specifically designed for all individuals who have an entrepreneurial spirit, who are involved, or wish to be involved, in community organisations, and/or who follow business and/or marketing-related studies. Through this unit, students will be introduced to brand guidelines, get started with elementary graphic design principles and build an inventory of the various tools available to create visual assets for their brands. Students will be given the opportunity to learn through a mix of discussions and hands-on practice with the aim to gather enough skills and insight to be able to create professional-looking brand identities whilst also remaining technically accurate and ethical throughout the process. Learning Objectives: • Introduction to brand guidelines and how to apply them; • Head-start on the fundamental principles of graphic design; • Building of a library of tools and resources; • Familiarisation with the elementary tools in graphic design software; • Practice creating a variety of visual assets. Unit Material: The tutor will provide students with the essential information and resources required during the unit. Assessment: In keeping with the spirit of Degree Plus, there is no formal assessment associated with the unit, and students are encouraged to learn through informal discussions and hands-on practice, with the guidance of the tutor. The tutor will monitor the students’ progress through the quality of discussion and their quality of execution of the practical tasks. A certificate of attendance and of satisfactory completion of the unit will be provided at the end of the semester.
