TITLE Enterprise I.T. Planning 2

UM LEVEL 03 - Years 2, 3, 4 in Modular Undergraduate Course

MQF LEVEL 6

ECTS CREDITS 6

DEPARTMENT Computer Information Systems

DESCRIPTION Students will learn to appreciate the practical benefits that an ERP solution offers by consolidating different company departments and their data into a single, unified solution. While ERP systems are simple in concept, their implementation brings about a considerable set of challenges. This study-unit will expose students to these challenges and provide them with insightful guidance to apply what they learned in CIS2060/1 Enterprise I.T. Planning to the development of practical solutions to customer needs.

• Given that business concepts are central to ERP systems, and given that the student attending this study-unit is assumed to have little or no formal business background, some introductory tuition and/or exercises will supplement the core course material so as to provide a basis for understanding how an ERP system integrates business functions across an organisation.

Study-unit Aims:

The primary aim of this study-unit is to analyse, design and customise an ERP system of choice within a practical scenario.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:
Through the use of a realistic case study, by the end of the study-unit, the student will be able to:

- Organise a project, gather and analyse customer requirements;
- Configure and customise an ERP solution to provide accurate and timely answers raised as part of the practical exercise;
- Set up, test and deliver a working ERP solution that addresses the needs of the ‘test’ organisation;
- Efficiently provide answers to the sorts of questions faced today by company executives which would have otherwise been impossible or too costly to satisfy.

2. Skills:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Carry out requirements specification for a new ERP deployment;
- Identify opportunities for BPR in the client organisation;
- Install and configure / customise an ERP package to specific needs;
- Operate all main functions of an ERP solution;
- Plan for the ongoing maintenance and support of an ERP solution.
