The following provides information for visiting students about the University of Malta and its courses.
Visiting students are classified as follows:
Applicants in this category are registered students of a University with which the University of Malta has a formal agreement. Exchange students would need to have prior recommendation by their home University indicating that the student is allowed to register for study-units at the University of Malta, and that these can be transferred to their respective course abroad. Exchange students obtain an official transcript of the study-units which they do at the University of Malta.
This means that there is NO formal agreement between the University of Malta and the student’s home university or that the student can not come to the University of Malta on an exchange basis because there is no vacancy available. The student can register for study-units at the University of Malta on a tuition fee basis, for a period of one semester or one full academic year. This applicant has to be a registered student of another University. Transfer students would need to have prior recommendation by their home University indicating that the student is allowed to register for study-units at the University of Malta, and that these can be transferred to their respective course abroad. Transfer students obtain an official transcript of the study-units which they do at the University of Malta.
Occasional students: The Rector may allow a person to attend a course of lectures or a practical class as an occasional student. The student has to have necessary academic background to follow the lectures or practical classes with profit. The Rector may at his discretion withdraw such permission at any time. Occasional students shall not be entitled to the rights and privileges accorded to regular students and may not sit for any examination of the University of Malta. Such students shall nevertheless be bound by the disciplinary regulations of the University of Malta.
