TITLE Philosophy of Communication

LEVEL 02 - Years 2, 3 in Modular Undergraduate Course



DESCRIPTION The study-unit is a philosophical analysis of the concept of communication. This entails understanding the way communicative interaction is produced, interpreted and performed within a specific context. The theory of communication presented here is opposed to the linear or process model of communication.

Study-Unit Aims:

The aim of the study-unit is:
- To discuss the linear and ritual models of communication;
- To discuss the characteristics that a philosophical theory of communication must have;
- To apply this theory to different communicative practices.

Each year two different communication practices will be chosen example:
- Fashion as communication or;
- Food as communication or;
- Music as communication or;
- Advertising as communication.
