TITLE Fine Arts Synoptic Study-unit 1

LEVEL 03 - Years 2, 3, 4 in Modular Undergraduate Course


DEPARTMENT Art and Art History

DESCRIPTION A cycle of seminars, discussions and round table debates for final year B.A./B.A. (Hons) candidates to help them place in an appropriate synoptic context their art historical studies and researches.

This study-unit is focused on international and local artistic periods covering the spectrum of studies undertaken during the undergraduate Fine Arts course.

Study-Unit Aims:

- To combine the elective History of Art component with the Fine Arts component, within a synoptic context;
- To help the candidate synthesize better the components covered;
- To provide guidance to the candidate with the synoptic articulation of ideas at undergraduate level;
- To help the candidate be more analytical and concise when summarising information covered during lectures and through independent reading;
- To encourage the candidate to critically review and debate ideas discussed during lectures.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- synoptically articulate what he/she has covered and comprehensively express his/her thoughts and ideas on different artistic periods;
- define the key points and concepts covered during lectures, independent study and tutorials that will help them express themselves more clearly and efficiently.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- summarize effectively and efficiently information covered during lectures, independent study and tutorials;
- express ideas in a more comprehensive way;
- identify the key points when summarising ideas within an art historical context.

Main Text/s and any supplementary readings:

Students are to consult the reading list for the individual elective study-units covered during the year. Lecturers will also be able to recommend literature for further reading as per study-units covered by the students.
