DESCRIPTION This study-unit links the dissertation research methodology and project with the practical-bottega principles of applied art. The chosen theme and corresponding media related to the final project will be defended during an academic examination’s board.

The project is the result of original research undertaken on a given theme and explains through reflective creative processes, and artistic methodology, using media or techniques appropriately selected by the candidate. The project should reflect in depth taught processes, critical judgment and artistic sensibility.

Study-unit Aims:

- To combine the fine arts practice with its research programme;
- To complete, resolve and assert given tasks related to the final project;
- To demonstrate the candidate’s reflective practice at Master’s level. It should confirm the candidate’s ability to show the integral relationship between concept, process and realisation;
- To analyse the historical, theoretical, critical and analytical research conducted by the candidate and to show their inter-relationships;
- To achieve an understanding of professional contemporary art and design.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Critically reflect and analyse one’s final project and discuss within a meaningful artistic context;
- Have sufficient academic and applied grounding for the further development of one’s artistic talents;
- Apply and articulate research methodologies in Art;
- Facilitate innovative work at Masters level which achieves the synthesis of practical, critical and theoretical concerns;
- Demonstrate technical and professional accomplishment in the rendering and dissemination of the project and its presentation.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Identify, explore, form an analytical awareness ample for an artistic experience;
- Apply and articulate research methodologies basing the Final Project project.

Literature will be recommended to students according to their research area.

 
ADDITIONAL NOTES **September Assessment Session: Students who fail to obtain an overall pass mark will be re-examined in the Dissertation. However, the resit availability for the Project and Oral Examination is at the discretion of the Board of Examiners.
