TITLE Adult Education, Training and Development: Policy Engagement and Policy Analysis

DESCRIPTION This study-unit engages with a critical discussion of main national, EU and international policy-directions and overarching policies relevant to adult education, training and development.

Subsequently, students are introduced to basic policy analysis approaches and methods that support an assessment of the extent of influence, strengths and weaknesses of the said policy approaches, directions and overarching policies.

Finally, the discussion will engage students with deploying the said basic policy analysis approaches and methods to analyze specific adult education, training and development case studies, contexts and practices.

Study-Unit Aims:

This study-unit aims to introduce students to:

- Main national, EU and international policy-directions and salient policies relevant to adult education, training and development; and
- Policy analysis, whereby students can identify the extent of influence, strengths and weaknesses of the said policy approaches, directions and overarching policies when engaging with adult education, training and development contexts, practices and case studies.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Explain main policy-making approaches and directions that commonly feature in contemporary adult education, training and development;
- Recall and describe salient aspects of national, EU and international policy in adult education; and
- Review local and foreign practices in adult education, training and development using a policy framework.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Analyze the policy-approaches and directions of given adult education, training and development settings, practices and/or case studies; and
-Relate given adult education, training and development settings, practices and/or case studies to relevant national, European and international policy frameworks.
