DESCRIPTION In this study-unit the students will examine the use of technologies and applications in the music classroom. There will be specific references and approaches to the teaching of composition, performance and music production using available online DAW software. The proposed unit is structured on an academic/theoretical model with a balance between theory and practice. It will offer a qualitative ‘step up’ outlook rather than the vocational approach of ‘how-to’ agenda. There are many challenges that Maltese music educators face when they attempt to use technology in the classroom. Integrating technology in the music classroom can help to meet the student's individual needs while allowing more customized learning experience. Incorporating technology can also help the teacher to better meet curricular goals and the classroom can serve as an excellent environment offering self- awareness in the student's creative process. It is a challenging task to music educators to integrate technology in their lesson planning. Without any doubt, technology in the music classroom not only enhances the teaching and learning experience but it also can generate further interest among the learners. While it considers certain aspects of traditional music and harmony, this course aims to provide a better understanding of contemporary harmony by addressing theoretical aspects such as basic chord structures, their functions, application of chord scale theory, basic harmonic analysis and arranging for four voices observing voice-leading technique. There is also a particular emphasis on the strengthening of the rhythmic pulse and on the importance of establishing a groove in a contemporary music.
