DESCRIPTION The study-unit focuses on providing the student with a 'tool box' of practical strategies for developing a successful enviroment for the practice of dance education. It is designed to allow for in-depth discussions on topics related to creating an effective teaching environment and will draw upon current literature, case studies, and opportunities for observation.

Topics to be explored include class planning and workshop design for both primary and secondary school age groups, the use of tools such as music and technology, management and problem solving, organisational skills, and working with multiple types and ages of learners.

Study-unit Aims:

- To provide students with tools for designing and planning dance-based curriculum for primary and secondary classrooms, as well as creative movement and technique based classes.
- To explore a variety of methods to successfully manage different types of classroom situations.
- To present a variety of options for the development of problem solving and organisational skills tailored to the needs of a dance and educational setting.
- To cultivate skills for teaching dance in multiple settings and to individuals from a variety of ages, backgrounds, and learning styles.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Engage with and analyse current literature and key concepts related to issues of teaching dance.
- Develop strategies for classroom management specifically related to dance teaching situations.
- Integrate and engage with a variety of supporting learning tools such as music and technology.
- Develop pedagogical methods for teaching and working with individuals from a variety of ages, backgrounds, and learning styles.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of current literature related to issues teaching dance.
- Develop strategies for classroom management specifically related to dance teaching situations.
- Develop skills in class and workshop planning for multiple types of dance and education scenarios.
- Investigate and experiment with a variety of supporting learning tools such as music and technology.
- Demonstrate knowledge of differences in teaching and working with individuals from a variety of ages, backgrounds, and learning styles.
