- Operational procedures;
- Air law;
- Flight planning;
- Physiology;
- Aircraft systems;
- Piston engines;
- Gas turbines;
- Meteorology.

This study-unit will be delivered by a flying school which is authorised to conduct ATPL courses.

Study-Unit Aims:

- To provide the trainee pilot with all the theoretical knowledge that is required in order to obtain an ATPL license. This knowledge complements the flight training that the trainee pilot receives during the ATPL course.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Explain how various flight instruments and aircraft systems work;
- Describe the main forces that act on an airframe;
- Explain the difference between techniques used for navigation;

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Plan a complete VFR or IFR flight for a particular aircraft using various planning tools and techniques (e.g. flight computer), while adhering to local aviation rules and ATC procedures;
